red ribbon week

This week is recognized as Red Ribbon Week.  You ask what is Red Ribbon Week?  Red Ribbon week is an alcohol, tobacco, and other drug and violence prevention awareness campaign.  Each day highlights a topic that teachers and staff can talk about with students to help them be better informed.

Red Ribbon Day #1: Students take a stand against drug abuse and make a promise to not to do drugs and alcohol.  Bring a friend and sign the poster in the cafeteria and receive a lollipop.

Red Ribbon Day #2: Peer pressure is one reason students start experimenting with alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.  Today, twist away that peer pressure by having a response if friends ask you to try something.  Maybe something along the lines as , "No thank you, I want to stay healthy". or "That scares me, no thank you". If you can twist away peer pressure, grab a Twizzler in the cafeteria today.

Red Ribbon week #3: Suicide prevention is a serious issue.  In today's times, people are lacking a personal connection with others.  Sure, we have our cell phones, but it's not the same as a helping hand, a touch.  Today make a connection to someone by giving them a hug, a handshake or an ear to listen.  Be the life saver a person needs and receive a life saver in the cafeteria today.

Red Ribbon week #4: Mental health is so important to our everyday life.  One way to have good mental health is through competition.  A competition can be routing for your favorite football team, playing a sport, competing in band and trying to be better or faster than somebody else. Healthy competition is healthy for our brain (which produces endorphins) and creates a natural high for us.  If you demonstrated a friendly competition by dressing as soccer mom or BBQ dad today, receive a treat in the cafeteria.

Red Ribbon week #5: As a Trenton Tiger show your spirit by growling away vaping and alcohol discussions around you.  Don't let your peers tell you it's ok to start and it's cool to do. If you haven't signed the poster in the cafeteria, do it today and receive a sticker.  Show your Tiger pride and let the community know, we stand together against drugs, tobacco and alcohol in our school.
