red ribbon week

It is Red Ribbon Week. You ask yourself, what is Red Ribbon Week? Well, we will tell you... Back in 1985, Enrique “Kiki” Camarena was a special agent who worked for the Drug Enforcement Administration. He was kidnapped by drug traffickers and murdered. His murder and death brought anger to the community and were a catalyst for the Red Ribbon Campaign. Together in Kiki’s honor, parents and youth in communities nationwide began wearing Red Ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness around his killing and the destruction caused by drugs in America.

This year's theme is "Be Kind to Your Mind." Live Drug Free. The theme is a call to action to speak out in support of healthy choices. It also serves as a reminder that we are all empowered with shaping the communities around us through positivity, bravery, and strength.

Monday: Wear a hat! Cover your mind with something good.

Tuesday: Dress as your future self. The theme is a reminder that by staying drug free, you are sending a message to yourself and others about how much you value yourself, your overall health, your community, and your future.

Wednesday: Dress up as a culture or holiday from around the world. Staying drug-free means investing in your current and future health. You don't have to use drugs to fit in. There are other ways to belong. Celebrate your uniqueness and show it to the world.

Thursday: Wear red and take a moment to sign the drug free poster today in the cafeteria. Trenton Loves our students and we want to you to lead happy, healthy, fun and wonderful lives. We know that by making a healthy choice, like staying drug free, you are more likely to live the best life for you.

We hope you've really thought about the meaning of this year's theme: Be King to Your Mind. Live Drug Free. and how making healthy choices will help you achieve your goals in Life.
